Ganesha, in clay
Wire and clay since childhood. Now Ganesha surfaces once a year, sculpted by hand for the festival — my one sacred commission, offered upward.
The pistachio-shell Ganesha
At seven, I glued pistachio shells to paper in the shape of Ganesha, painted over them, and won first place. Twenty-five years later I can still see it. My mother saw it too — and that matters more than the prize ever did. No photograph survives; it lives only in memory now. Everything I've made since is downstream of this one.
