Software is the same urge as painting or cooking — make things, for people — in a different language. I can't build the boring version of anything: the moment I touch a problem I'm asking how it could learn you, and make you better at the thing. Don't build what already exists; build what's missing.

Most of this I built for myself, in a career break, in fifteen-minute fragments between two toddlers and a job search — the making engine doesn't pause, it just selects interruptible media. And where a tool proposes the median, I'm the variance. Taste is the presence of a decision, and I intend to make all of mine.
